Reasons for Founding: One hundred settlers, led by the Minister Thomas Hooker, set up a new colony in Connecticut. These new settlers rejected the autocratic rule of the Puritans in Massachusetts.
Date of Founding: 1662
Economy: Manufactured items and ship building.
Geography: Narrow lowlands and hilly eastern upland. The basic geography of New England consisted of mountains thick with trees, rivers and poor rocky soil that was difficult to farm and unsuitable for crops
