Reasons for founding: Was part of North Carolina, but became hard to govern so was split into two separate colonies.
Date of Founding: 1663 by the Eight Nobles
Economy: Rice, sugar cane, cotton, cattle, tabbaco, and indigo.
Geography: Hills and mountains, generally marshy land
Government: Started out as a Proprietary colony but became a Royal colony in 1719.
Celebrities/Important Residents: Mary-Louise Parker, John Phillips, James Butler Bonham and Alice Childress.
Religion: Protestantism
Residency Requirements: Protestants, but in general they wanted a variety of religions to join and settle there.
Target Residents: People who were interested in economy and farming.
